In the heart of Calgary, The Tisto Factory has quickly become a beloved culinary gem that we’re proud to carry, and its story is as rich as the pierogies it serves. Founded by Anna, a Ukrainian immigrant, this eatery is a testament to resilience and creativity. Anna’s journey from a small town near Bakhmut, Ukraine, to Calgary is nothing short of extraordinary.

On February 24, 2022, as conflict erupted in Europe, Anna and her family made the difficult decision to leave their homeland. With only a few backpacks, they sought refuge in Canada, where Calgary became their new home. Despite the challenges, the warmth and kindness of the Canadian people gave Anna the support she needed to rebuild her life.

Inspired by her children’s aversion to vegetables, Anna began crafting vibrant, veggie-filled pierogies, drawing on family recipes passed down through generations. These striped pierogies, with their playful names and vibrant colors, quickly became a hit. Encouraged by the response, Anna sold her only car to fund her dream and turned her passion into a thriving business.

Today, The Tisto Factory is more than just a restaurant—it’s a symbol of hope and determination. Recently, it was honored with the titles of

Made In Alberta Overall Winner and Savoury Category winner. Anna’s story and her colorful pierogies are a reminder that even in the face of adversity, the human spirit can triumph, creating something truly beautiful and lasting.
