In 2024, with the support of our members and partners, Calgary Co-op raised $2.8 million in food and funds through eight fundraising campaigns, one emergency relief effort, and a Calgary Co-op-hosted fundraising event. These efforts benefited 14 core organizations and the Canadian Red Cross.

Our focus areas are food security, supporting vulnerable populations and helping seniors and children. From new initiatives like Toonies for Tummies to ongoing programs like Fresh Food Rescue, we’ve made a meaningful impact in our community. Here’s how your support made a difference.

Food Security

Calgary Co-op addresses food security by providing fresh food to those in need, supporting nutrition education, and investing in sustainable solutions. In partnership with organizations like the Calgary Food Bank, Airdrie Food Bank, Wheatland Food Bank and the Salvation Army High River, we ensure nutritious food reaches those who need it most.

Supporting Vulnerable Populations

We proudly support vulnerable populations through partnerships with local organizations that provide essential resources and services. Collaborations with Meals on Wheels, Inn from the Cold, Wood’s Homes, The Mustard Seed and FearIsNotLove enable us to deliver meals, and critical food in emergency situations.

Helping Seniors & Children

Supporting seniors and children is a key focus of Calgary Co-op and its members. We support seniors through Unison at Kerby and Calgary Seniors Resource to provide independence through food security. We support children through Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids, The Children’s Cottage Society and The Breakfast Clubs of Canada to provide nutritious meals so children can focus on learning and growing.

2024 Highlights

Toonies for Tummies
In February of 2024 Calgary Co-op joined the nationwide Toonies for Tummies initiative to ensure local children have access to healthy breakfasts. This initiative is run by the Grocery Foundation and works with Breakfasts Clubs of Canada – 100% of the funds raised go directly back to the schools where we operate. Together, we raised $68,000 in our first year and we’re excited to continue this campaign in 2025 under a new name “Make Happy Tummies” that will deliver the same impact to school aged children.

Calgary Co-op Golf Charity Classic
We hosted one of our largest tournaments to date this past June for suppliers, vendors and contractors. This tournament raised over $440,000 for the core organizations we support.

Alberta Forest Fire Relief
In response to the devastating fires in Jasper, Calgary Co-op and its members raised $92,000 for the Canadian Red Cross. These funds assisted evacuees and communities with immediate relief, financial assistance, and recovery efforts while also supporting preparedness for future disaster events in Alberta.

Fresh Food Rescue
Since 2021, through our Fresh Food Rescue program we redirect perfectly edible items such as produce, meat, and prepared meals, we reduce waste while supporting local food banks and community members in need.

Unison Thrive Food Security Program
We continued our work to ensure seniors are supported through helping fund Unison’s Thrive Food Security program. This initiative combats hunger through free food markets, grocery and food basket delivery, and community pantry services, ensuring seniors have access to nutritious meals.
