Tara believes it’s vital for farmers to share their stories to prevent misinformation. Engaging with the community has allowed her to correct myths about the industry.
“If you have questions about your food, ask a farmer.”
Tara grew up near a golf course in B.C. and met her first husband, a dairy farmer, in high school. They moved to Alberta and started a trucking business before managing a poultry farm. After her husband’s accident, Tara balanced farming and family life while fulfilling their farm commitments. In 2005, they bought their own farm, expanding into poultry and cattle.
Following her husband’s passing in 2011, Tara kept the farm running with the help of family, neighbors, and her church. She later remarried and moved to a new farm near Edmonton, where she now raises 58,000 birds with her husband Darren, upgrading the farm with new technology.
Tara advocates for transparency in farming, hosting tours and speaking at events. She serves as Vice-Chair on the Alberta Chicken Producers’ Board, representing Canadian farmers and their commitment to high standards. Family remains central to her life as she balances advocacy, farming, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
